An agreement of cooperation has been signed between the Hayel Saeed Anam Charity Foundation’s (HSACF) Humanitarian Development Programme (HDP) and the Social Fund for Development (SFD), which will provide support for SDF’s efforts to develop and implement solutions to alleviate poverty and improve life outcomes for communities across Yemen.
The HDP will deliver a package of projects focusing on supplying water, sanitation, education, and improved healthcare, roads, and livelihood opportunities for the most vulnerable communities in Yemen. By improving access to basic services, raising income levels, and increasing the availability of economic opportunities, the Foundation’s HDP partnership with the SFD will contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and ultimately promote food security.
The communities set to benefit will be selected according to a number of global indicators, including the Distress Index and International Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) progress classification indicators. Through the power of a partnership between a public institution and the private sector, the programme will support communities in Yemen that have been struggling for more than half a decade through one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
General Manager of Human Development Programme, Mujib Al-Fatsh, said: “This partnership will enable the Hayel Saeed Anam Charitable Foundation and the Social Fund for Development to improve day-to-day living conditions for communities across Yemen. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with the Social Fund for Development and contribute to the health, food security and overall wellbeing of the Yemeni population”.
“Our two organisations share a desire to support Yemeni communities as they face significant challenges. We look forward to partnering with SFD on projects that will improve quality of life for Yemenis by repairing infrastructure, improving sanitation, and ensuring a steady supply of food, with a particular focus on reaching those most in need”.
Deputy Executive Director of Social Fund for Development, Wesam Qaid, said: ”With more than 80% of Yemenis in need, the country's challenges are too big to tackle alone. This unique public-private partnership will enable the Social Fund for Development and the HSA charitable foundation to have a strategic approach to supporting communities improve their day-to-day living conditions. Through joining efforts many more thousands of people will gain improved access to water, health, education services, roads and longer-time dignifying livelihood solutions powered by strong human capital gains.
Underlying Yemen's complex challenges and future development is the country's human capital. At the heart of this partnership between two public and private local institutions is human development as it provides the space to develop new human centred approaches and systems to serving communities. We are hopeful that our partnership garners the support and imagination of Yemen's international partners who are actively seeking new innovative and sustainable approaches to addressing Yemen's development challenges”.
